Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

How accurate is Sticky Yard and Sticky Meter Software?

You will find that our software is very accurate if you follow the basic photographic conventions discussed in the User Manual. The graduation for Sticky Yard is 1/16 of an inch and for Sticky Meter is 1 centimeter.

What is the best way to store my adhesive Sticky Yard or Sticky Meter after I have used it for the first time?

The best way is to roll it up on itself just the way it came packaged. The adhesive is strong enough to repeatedly adhere to surfaces for measurement and is also designed to roll up on itself repeatedly. Also, the cleaner you keep the adhesive side of the Sticky Yard, the more uses you will get.
You can store the magnetic version the same way or you can just stick it to a metal object for future use.

Where can I get a photo for use with the evaluation software?

Sample photos are available on the manuals page.

How far away from the object do I need to be?

The best photos will include the entire object you are trying to measure. There is no minimum distance.

What operating systems and computer platforms do you support?

The application is designed to run on Windows 98/2000/ME/XP. We have tested it on Windows VISTA and it has run successfuly. We are currently working on version for the Macintosh.

What if I receive an error message when I try to initially run the Sticky Yard or Sticky Meter Software?

If you receive the error message: “COMDLG32.ocx is missing or invalid”

Go to: www.stickyyard.com/update.html and download the update. Run the update and your software should then operate smoothly.

If you have problems running the installer you can manually update the comdlg32.ocx file.

Go to your C:\Windows\system32 folder and backup the current copy of com32dlg.ocx file by just renaming it com32dlg_bk.ocx. Then copy the attached file into your Widows\system32 folder. On Win98 and NT installations the Windows system folder has a different name: Win or WinNT.

Once you have copied the new file into the proper directory go to your start button and choose the 'run' command. Type the following into the command line and hit enter.

(Use the system folder path for your particular system)

REGSVR32 \Windows\System32\comdlg32.ocx

If you receive the error message:

Cannot find import; DLL may be missing, corrupt, or wrong version File gdiplus.DLL,error 126.

You need to install the latest Windows update for your computer. The most current GDIplus.dll file is included in the last service pack for Window 2000.

If you would like to upgrade just the gdi file go to:

www.microsoft.com/downloads/

We would strongly recommend upgrading to Windows XP. Windows 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft Here is a link describing the GDI file.

msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp

Can I save my work in a JPEG format?

Yes you can! Sticky Yard version 2.0 will be released in the summer of 2007. Under File, Save As, use the “save as type” drop down box to select between JPG save and SYD save. SYD save allows you to go back to that photo and take additional measurments.
